David Smith at the Landlord Law Conference 2017

This post is more than 8 years old

February 23, 2017 by Tessa Shepperson

FP-DavidSmithDavid Smith – who is fast becoming THE go-to expert on landlord and tenant issues, has always been one one of the most popular speakers at our Conferences.

As you probably know, David is a solicitor and partner in the legal 500 law firm Anthony Gold and is also the director of policy at the Residential Landlords Association.

David is doing two talks for us at the conference:

Consumer Law

This area of law is becoming increasingly important yet few landlords or agents know anything about it! This is why I asked David to do an introductory talk so at least delegates are aware of the things they need to watch out for and the precautions you need to take. Contrary to what you might think Consumer Law DOES apply to you! And the penalties for non-compliance can be fierce.

HMO Update

David has always done an HMO talk at our conferences but this year it is probably more significant than usual as the government wants to widen the scope of licensing. This will bring many properties into scope, properties whose landlords are probably in happy ignorance of the regulations. As Councils are bringing more and more prosecutions and as Magistrates Courts fines are now unlimited, this is now a very important topic indeed.

Anthony Gold / RLA Exhibitors

David’s firm Anthony Gold will be exhibitors at the Conference and you will be able to find David there in the breaks, and speak to him or one of the other lawyers there. The Residential Landlords Associations are also exhibitors and available to provide advice and guidance to delegates.

A short video

See below a short video with David where he discusses the two talks he will be giving at the Conference and their importance to landlords. (You may have to wait a minute for it to load. If you are reading this via email you will need to click to visit the website.)
