The Landlord Law Virtual Conference 2020

April 29, 2020 by Tessa Shepperson

We normally run a Landlord Law Conference every spring.  We were planning on doing one this year and had booked conference facilities at a hotel for 12 May.

Then came the coronavirus pandemic.

However – when one door closes, another opens.  I have been wondering about doing virtual ‘summit’ events for a while – so it made sense to turn the Landlord Law Conference into a Landlord law Virtual Conference.

Which is what we have done.

There are some changes:

  • The normal half-hour talks have been extended to 45 minutes to allow a bit of time for questions
  • This means that there are fewer talks per day, but I have spread the Conference over two days now (12 and 13 May), so over all there is more content
  • We have added an hours Q&A session at the end of each day to allow delegates more time to question speakers (as you won’t be able to buttonhole them personally)
  • Instead of having exhibitors, we have sponsors videos which will play over the lunch breaks
  • All talks will be recorded and published as a replay later which delegates can view for at lease three months

However, the conference is sponsored, as before, by Hamilton Fraser Insurance.

So what do we have for you?

You can see the full program on the Conference Information Page but we have talks from:

  • David Smith from JMW Solicitors with an update and review of the year, and also a talk on subletting issues
  • Ben Beadle, the CEO of the National Residential Landlords Association with a talk on the future of landlords
  • David Cox CEO of Arla Propertymark with a talk on letting agent regulation
  • Suzy Hershman of My Deposits with a tenancy deposit update
  • Paul Shamplina from Landlord Action with a talk on current eviction issues
  • Brooke Lyne, housing barrister, with a talk on the new Fitness for Habitation Act

In total there are 12 talks, plus the sponsor’s videos and the Q&A sessions.

The Virtual Conference

I have to say that I will miss our normal ‘traditional’ conference.  However, it is always fun to do something new, and having a virtual conference means that EVERYONE can attend – even if you are ill in bed with coronavirus, you can still switch on your computer and watch the talks.

And, unlike the traditional conference, if you have to miss one or more of the talks – you can always watch the replays later!
