October 18, 2021 by Mark Savill

Green ImprovementsFollowing our first two posts, we continue our series on ‘green improvement’ grants and support provided by local authorities to landlords and tenants.

This post covers the next 20 local authorities – from Broxbourne to Ceredigion.

Broxbourne

Broxbourne have joined with other districts to create a Hertfordshire Warmer Homes scheme that offers discounted or free home improvements that will reduce energy bills or the overall heating in a home. Information on the Hertfordshire Warmer Homes scheme can be found here.

Broxtowe

Broxtowe has a page containing advice as well as information about the warm homes discount scheme and grants to help pay off any energy debts, which can be found here.  That said, we can’t find any Council schemes.

Burnley

Burnley borough council are part of the cosy homes in Lancashire scheme which offer energy-related improvements. In addition, the council also have a heating rebate scheme where they offer to replace an inefficient or broken down central heating system. Both schemes can be found here.

Bury

Bury have a page which details various different schemes and advice pages regarding energy improvements (including the now defunct green homes grant scheme), which can be found here.

Hinckley and Bosworth

Hinckley and Bosworth are offering financial assistance to those struggling to afford home improvements. These can be energy efficiency improvements. For eligibility and further information,  click here

Reigate and Banstead

Reigate and Banstead offer small grants for urgent repairs or improvements which can be energy efficiency improvements. The page for this can be found here. Apart from that, we were unable to find any other active grants or loans.

South Buckinghamshire

An organisation called better housing and better health have combined with Local authorities in Buckinghamshire to create a number of grants and funding relating to home improvements which can be found here. South Bucks also has a page regarding tips and advice found here.

West Berkshire

West Berkshire are offering heating and insulation grants for lower-income households within the area. Information about the heating and insulation grant can be found here.

Caerphilly County

Calderdale

Calderdale offers an advice service, which does not directly offer any grants or funding, but speaking to the council directly here may bring out further information on funding that they offer. This page also offers advice.

Cambridge City

Cambridge city has a page here which details all the various grants and funding available regarding home improvements and energy efficiency improvements.

Camden London borough

Canterbury city

While the Green Homes Grant has closed, there is a link at the bottom of the page here with links to expert advice about making your home more efficient. They may be able to provide people with information regarding funding and grants. However, apart from that, we were unable to find any more information regarding council funding.

Central Bedfordshire

A group called the Aran group have described local funding within Bedfordshire here, which show two different funds available. While one seems to be offered around Bedfordshire, the ECO grant funding is available within Bedfordshire. Bedfordshire on their council page asks that due to a constantly changing budgeting situation, people contact them direct to find out what funding is available. Further information can be found here.

Green Improvements in Rented Properties

ecoIn view of the pending climate catastrophe, landlords will need to reduce their carbon footprint.

It is likely that in a few years time properties will need to have an EPC rating of band C as a condition of being rented to tenants.

We will be publishing such help and guidance as we can on the Landlord Law Blog which will be linked here.  Starting with our series of Local Authority Support.
